Verde Vibes

Campo Verde High School & Gilbert, Arizona, AZ Community

Gilbert’s dining landscape has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past year, with 15 new restaurants opening their doors to eager foodies and local residents. As someone born and raised here, I’ve watched our once-sleepy suburb evolve into a lively culinary destination that now rivals some of the Valley’s most established foodie hotspots.

This restaurant boom isn’t just about population growth—it’s a reflection of changing tastes and a growing demand for quality, variety, and authenticity in our local dining options.

Flavors Without Leaving Town

What makes this culinary evolution especially exciting is that we no longer have to head into Scottsdale or downtown Phoenix for a great meal. Gilbert now offers a diverse lineup—from upscale dining to innovative fast-casual spots—that’s redefining the local food scene.

In the last few months alone, I’ve had the chance to sample everything from bold international flavors to elevated spins on comfort food. Across the board, I’ve been impressed by the creativity, quality, and genuine passion behind each new concept.

Spotlight: The Porch

Among the most talked-about newcomers is The Porch, which opened its third location here after successful runs in Arcadia and Tempe. This East Valley outpost brings their signature mix of reimagined comfort food and a laid-back yet stylish setting.

Their standout short rib grilled cheese—with caramelized onions on crispy sourdough—is a perfect example of their approach: familiar, but done exceptionally well. The modern farmhouse design and expansive patio make it ideal for everything from date nights to casual group outings.

Local Ingredients, Big Flavor

What sets The Porch apart is their dedication to local sourcing and seasonal menus. Executive Chef Miranda Wilson works directly with Arizona farmers to incorporate regional ingredients into her dishes.

With most entrées priced between $14 and $ 24, it’s a great balance of quality and value. And if you haven’t tried their weekend brunch, you’re missing out—just be ready to book ahead. Their online reservations open two weeks in advance at midnight, and spots fill quickly.

A Culinary Turning Point

Gilbert’s dining expansion marks more than just new places to eat—it signals a community growing into its own. With chefs and restaurateurs investing in local flavor and flair, there’s never been a more exciting time to dine in Gilbert.
